Important to create a sustainable and clean environment: CM

By Web Desk Jun 22, 2026

AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha spoke on importance of building a sustainable and clean environment. He was speaking at the statewide workshop on waste management held at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala Monday.

He urged citizens to actively participate in creating a beautiful, healthy and clean Tripura. Dr Saha stressed the legal framework surrounding environmental protection, highlighting that waste cannot be indiscriminately dumped and that violators may face fines, legal repercussions and even disconnections of essential services such as electricity and water if found non-compliant with waste disposal regulations.

He linked these efforts to the national Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for collective action and public awareness to tackle environmental issues, including rampant garbage and pollution that threaten public health. The Chief Minister noted the constitutional duty of citizens to maintain a clean environment, urging families, institutions and community members to collaborate on waste management initiatives and foster a public movement for environmental consciousness.

Chief Minister authorised District Magistrates to oversee waste disposal regulations actively, underlining their authority to enforce compliance. He recognised the crucial role of municipal representatives as intermediaries between the government and the public, underlining their responsibility to promote awareness about waste management in their communities.

He reiterated that a clean India begins with each state, and highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to enhance municipal cleanliness in Agartala and beyond. To facilitate proper waste management, the government introduced the ‘Amar Sarkar’ App and emphasized the mandatory collection of prescribed user charges for garbage disposal from households.

The workshop was attended by several key municipal leaders and district officials including Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumdar and Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta.
