HM Amit Shah visits BSF's Lankamura BoP in Tripura
AGARTALA: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah Friday visited the BSF outpost in Lankamura, Tripura, on World Environment Day where he inateracted with the BSF personnel and participated in a plantation initiative by planting an Agar tree. Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the Union Home Secretary, the Director General of the BSF, senior central and state government officials were in attendance at the programme.
During the event, Amit Shah highlighted a significant achievement since 2019, stating that personnel from all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have planted over 7.5 crore trees across India. He announced plans for this year to plant between 40 lakh and 60 lakh trees with the goal of 2 crore trees to be planted by next year, reflecting a commitment to environmental conservation and national service.
Shah stressed the critical importance of environmental protection referencing the role of the ozone layer in shielding life on Earth. He noted that the increase in tree coverage is vital for addressing environmental challenges.
He acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to environmental initiatives, which garnered international recognition during the Paris Conference, where India was noted for meeting its Paris Agreement targets ahead of time. This commitment is deeply rooted in the cultural values of environmental conservation as expressed in the Rigveda.
The Union Minister called for a collective effort towards nurturing saplings, urging that this environmental initiative should evolve from government mandates into ingrained habits that contribute to overall protection. He also inaugurated new residential facilities for the 37th Battalion of the BSF and laid the foundation stone for the Quarter Guard complex of the 97th Battalion asserting that the Central Government is devoted to enhancing both the living conditions of soldiers and their families.
Amit Shah affirmed that border security falls under the purview of the BSF acknowledging the complex challenges posed by India's vast borders. He announced plans for "Smart Borders" to improve security where the BSF and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) are stationed employing a comprehensive four-pronged strategy that integrates local governance, technology and the unwavering commitment of security personnel.
Union Home Minister revealed that the concept of the "Smart Border" is nearing its implementation stage with a pilot project to commence shortly.
