REGIONAL: Suspected militants targeted and killed two women from the Kuki community in a fresh surge of violence in Manipur's Tamenglong district Tuesday. The victims identified as Chonga Sitlhou, aged 60 and Kimboi Singson, aged 30 were gathering firewood in an isolated area of the village of Leisangphai.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the women were shot while engaged in their activities. The attack follows another violent incident just two days prior, where four people, also including two women were murdered across Tamenglong and Noney districts.
Local officials report that the bodies of the deceased were discovered in the field, exhibiting gunshot wounds with villagers participating in the recovery process. Several villagers from the area remain unaccounted for.
