KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone for the 2,000-bed 'Adani Arogya Mandir' at Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub in New Town, Kolkata, Thursday. This project aligns with West Bengal’s 2026 Healthcare Vision and is set to be executed by the Adani Foundation aiming to serve over 200,000 inpatients and more than 2 million outpatients every year while generating around 10,000 jobs.

The total investment for the hospital is expected to exceed Rs 4,000 crore making it a significant addition to the region's healthcare landscape.

Occupying 51.75 acres, the facility will function as a multi-speciality hospital and will also include step-down and transitional care facilities. It will feature a Meditel and Vishram Gruh, providing accommodation for relatives of patients.

Chief Minister Adhikari emphasized the importance of this project not just as a hospital, but as part of a fully integrated healthcare city, which will enhance medical tourism and bolster Bengal's development.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, assured that the Arogya Mandir will be a world-class, not-for-profit institution, offering 1,000 beds for economically disadvantaged patients under various health insurance schemes. He also unveiled plans for an investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035, which will cover various sectors, including renewable energy and logistics.

In addition to the hospital, the campus will host a medical college with an annual enrollment of 150 undergraduates, over 100 postgraduates, and more than 40 super-specialists. There will also be a College of Nursing and facilities for allied healthcare education, fostering the next generation of medical professionals.

Residential accommodations will be available for healthcare workers and their families.

The initial phase of the hospital will concentrate on cancer care, delivering specialized healthcare services. The Arogya Mandir will also establish a research ecosystem focused on genomics, precision medicine, and advanced biomedical sciences, aiming to translate scientific discoveries into practical healthcare applications.

International collaborations with institutions like Mayo Clinic and Singapore's SingHealth aim to inject global expertise into the facility’s operations, addressing unique healthcare challenges in India while contributing to broader scientific advancements.

The Adani Foundation's efforts will also include the revitalisation of Kumartuli Ghat, along with signing two MoUs with the Government of West Bengal to support this initiative.
