Fit India Sundays on Cycle at BRICS Run & Ride 2026
NEW DELHI: On National Sports Day, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, together with Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir, wrestler Sangram Singh and actor Madhurima Tuli, spearheaded a special edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi Sunday. This event was part of a nationwide initiative held at over 25,000 locations under the theme of promoting cycling as a healthy lifestyle choice.
The 88th edition held special significance as it coincided with India hosting the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled for September 12-13.
Speaking at the event, Dr Mandaviya highlighted its dedication to BRICS dignitaries and cycling's benefits, including fitness, pollution reduction and traffic congestion alleviation. He encouraged citizens to adopt cycling into their weekly routines while urging them to take time away from screens and engage in outdoor activities.
Among those present were distinguished representatives from BRICS countries like the Chargé d’Affaires from Malaysia and the Ambassador from Vietnam as well as senior officials from various Indian government departments.
Gautam Gambhir underscored the importance of fitness for a robust and self-reliant India calling on the youth to embrace this movement beyond a mere event. The stadium buzzed with enthusiasm as over 5,000 participants, including youth and senior citizens, actively engaged in cycling and other fitness activities enriched by an ITBP brass band performance.
Fit India Sundays on Cycle, part of the broader Fit India initiative by Dr Mandaviya's Ministry is executed in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India and several other organisations, promoting cycling across all Indian states and union territories through various sporting programs like SAI and Khelo India.
