"Exciting Day of Fishing" - youth led angling event
REGIONAL: A group of educated unemployed youths organised an angling competition titled "Exciting Day of Fishing" at Z Lotha Fisheries in Ekokju village, Wokha, Nagaland. The event aimed to promote recreational fishing, encourage community participation, and create a platform for people of all ages to explore alternative livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
The event provided fishing enthusiasts and families with an opportunity to engage in a healthy outdoor activity. The competition featured a "one person, one rod" rule and awarded cash prizes to the top three winners.
Pipen Erui won the first prize of Rs 50,000 followed by Shanpemo Kithan with Rs 25,000 for second place and Aben Murry received Rs 10,000 for third. Special prizes of Rs 3,000 were given for the Biggest Catch and First Catch as well as 10 consolation prizes of Rs 2,500 each.
The initiative showcases the rising popularity of angling in Nagaland, where the abundant water resources and diverse aquatic life attract both young and outdoor enthusiasts. Organizers emphasised that the event aimed to entertain while also inspiring young people to come together to create opportunities through their own initiatives.
They highlighted how community-supported activities can pave the way for self-employment and the development of sustainable recreational ventures.
