Elephant swept by flood rescued from Dikhow River

REGIONAL: A 53-year-old female domesticated elephant that was swept away by the floodwaters of Dikhow River from Namsang in Nagaland was rescued from the river in spate at Bihubor in Sivasagar district of Assam.

The elephant was then made to walk up to Balighat at Simaluguri, where it is currently staying and being looked after by a team of veterinarians from Nazira sub-division of Sivasagar district. The condition of the rescued elephant is being closely monitored.

The  veterinary team included  Dr Lachit Bora and Veterinary Field Assistants Kumud Saikia and Abhilash Saikia as well as DR Mrinal Jyoti Bora from Nazira Mobike Veterinary Unit .
