Committed to providing essential services to citizens: CM
AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha reiterated the state government's commitment to providing essential services to citizens during the inauguration of the new ward office for AMC Ward 40 in Agartala Tuesday. He highlighted the efforts of the Agartala Municipal Corporation in enhancing citizen services through modern infrastructure development.
Chief Minister in his speech stated that there will be no compromise on infrastructure development aiming for transparency in expanding services.
"Since 2019, significant improvements have been observed in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area due to well-implemented development plans. Historically, government negligence had led to the filling of water bodies and road encroachments, exacerbating sewage management issues", he said adding that the incumbent state government and Municipal Corporation are focused on rejuvenating the city with meticulous planning.
The revitalisation efforts have included the renovation and beautification of 24 water bodies at a cost of ₹137 crore and the provision of drinking water to all households in previously underserved areas. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana housing projects have been initiated to benefit urban dwellers with a target of constructing 79,878 homes at an estimated expenditure of ₹1,292 crore of which over 76,000 houses have already been prepared.
Dr Saha said various initiatives under the Smart City Mission are underway to transform Agartala into a modern smart city. Beyond ensuring basic services, the government is focused on creating alternative employment opportunities in urban areas, notably through the formation of 6,725 self-help groups as part of the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission.
Increased funding for the TUEP project aims to assist workers maintaining cleanliness across urban locales including Agartala.
AMC Mayor Dipak Majumdar, Councilors and officials were present at the inauguration.
