
AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha underlined the importance of promoting sports activities and providing skill development training for the mental wellbeing of inmates in the state's correctional institutions and jails.
“If they take skill development training, they will be able to earn money by engaging in various jobs after the completion of their sentence. Those who have returned to the mainstream after being released upon completion of their sentence should also be monitored regarding their future life,” he said.
Chief Minister was addressing at a meeting organised on the reform and modernisation of the Central Correctional Institution and state prisons at the TIFT Conference Hall in Agartala Thursday.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that proper precautions should also be taken regarding the nutrition, treatment and overall well-being of prison inmates.
Prison Affairs Minister, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, Secretary of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department Abhishek Singh, IG (Prisons) Ashim Saha and officials from various departments participated in the discussion.
During the meeting, Prisons Secretary Brijesh Pandey gave details about the number of inmates in various prisons, including the Central Correctional Institution as well as food, medical facilities, reading materials such as books and newspapers, sports facilities and other amenities available to inmates.
