AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha stressed state government's commitment to expanding cricket infrastructure in the state during the Annual Award Distribution Ceremony organised by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) in Agartala Sunday. He informed that thirty acres of land have been allocated for a state-of-the-art cricket academy in Sekerkot, Sepahijala district, which will serve not only local players but also athletes from other northeastern states.
Dr Saha announced that the construction of an international cricket stadium is nearing completion, which will enable the state to host both national and international matches soon. The popularity of cricket and other sports has surged in Tripura, with increased parental encouragement for children to pursue cricket. He affirmed that the government in collaboration with the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is providing necessary legal and administrative support for the sport's development.
The proposed academy is anticipated to become a critical training hub for the northeastern region. Dr Saha expressed optimism about organising large-scale cricket events at the new stadium.
Improved practice facilities are also being constructed in areas such as Kailashahar, Belonia, and Jirania to further promote cricket at the grassroots level.
In his speech, Dr. Saha cherished the successes of the state's cricketers congratulating Mani Shankar Murasingh for becoming the first Tripura player to compete in 100 Ranji Trophy matches as well as highlighting the consistent performances of cricketer Sridam Pal and the contributions of guest players Hanuma Vihari and Vijay Shankar.
