IMPHAL: The Naga Humanitarian Aid Committee Manipur (NACM) held a candlelight vigil at the Kangla Fort in Imphal Monday to honour the memory of eight Naga men who were killed in various incidents amidst the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
The casualties that occurred in Naga-inhabited areas of the Manipur hills since September 21 include a 17-year-old Liangmai Naga from Tamei, four Tangkhul Nagas in the Kamjong district's Pilong area and three Mao Nagas in the Kalenjang area of Senapati district.
NACM's co-convenor, Amana Thaimei, stated that these killings were perpetrated by Kuki terrorists and expressed deep concern for the safety of indigenous communities. During the vigil, he stressed, "We have no other option than to light candles for our brothers with a heavy heart."
The event saw participation from various indigenous community members including former UNLF Chairman RK Meghen, all gathered to light candles in remembrance of the victims and to mourn collectively at the Kangla Western Gate.
