BJP wants a common campaign strategy for the VC polls

By IH News Desk Sep 20, 2026

AGARTALA: The BJP has intensified efforts to bridge coordination among its alliance partners in preparation for the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections slated for September 28. The principal party of the coalition government wants to work out modalities on joint campaigning strategies that suit local conditions.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath chaired a significant meeting with the Tipra Motha Party at the State Guest House, here Sunday during which extensive discussions were held about collaborative efforts for campaigning at the local level. Leaders of the smaller alliance partner IPFT either skipped the meeting or were not invited.

Minister Nath asserted that joint campaigning for the elections to 587 VCs would not be mandatory in every area, rather strategies should be tailored based on specific local needs and circumstances. He highlighted the importance of direct voter engagement through various methods, including door-to-door outreach, courtyard meetings, market interactions and small public rallies, primarily organized at the grassroots level.

The meeting served as a platform to discuss the potential for unified campaigning to narrow the gap and expand cooperation among the alliance partners, and address challenges that may arise during the election process. Minister Nath reiterated the objective of tackling difficulties collectively and affirmed that the coordination efforts will persist in the lead-up to the Village Committee elections.

The discussions and agreements reached in the meeting have also been communicated to Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, BJP State President Abhishek Debroy and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
