
KOHIMA: Nagaland government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic landslide in Mon Town Sunday morning, which has resulted in at least four fatalities and significant property and infrastructure damage. The government conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and offered prayers for the deceased while wishing a swift recovery to the injured.
In response to the ongoing extreme weather conditions affecting various regions in the state, the government is closely monitoring the situation. Besides Mon District, the Tuli Sub-Division in Mokokchung District and other areas have experienced severe consequences including landslides, flash floods, road blockages and damage to both public infrastructure and private property.
Several agencies, including the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively engaged in search and rescue operations, evacuating vulnerable residents, restoring essential services and providing immediate relief to those affected.
The Chief Minister has announced a compensation package ₹4 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased individual and ₹74,000 for each injured person. Relief measures will encompass food, temporary shelter, essential commodities, and further support for all impacted families throughout the affected districts.
The government has instructed all relevant departments to maintain high alertness and ensure seamless coordination for timely responses, restoration of connectivity, and rehabilitation of impacted communities. Continuous situation assessment is ongoing and additional support will be mobilised as necessary.
Public advisories have been issued, urging residents to remain vigilant, avoid hazardous slopes, riverbanks, and landslide-prone areas, follow guidelines from the NSDMA and local administrations and rely on official information while avoiding the spread of unverified reports or rumors.
