Ambitious: NEHHDC and Central Silk Board sign MoU

By IH News Desk Sep 22, 2026

REGIONAL: The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC) and the Central Silk Board (CSB), a part of the Ministry of Textiles, India, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bengaluru aimed at enhancing collaborative efforts in the realms of silk and sericulture development. This agreement coincided with the 77th Foundation Day of the Central Silk Board and served as a platform for various stakeholders within the silk sector, showcasing exhibitions, technology launches, research initiatives and the signing of multiple MoUs.

The MoU establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation between NEHHDC and CSB throughout different phases of the silk and sericulture value chain. Key areas of collaboration encompass pre-cocoon activities, advancements in silk research and the dissemination of developmental outcomes. Additionally, the agreement addresses post-cocoon technologies, the creation of industrial infrastructure, training and capacity building, product development, design innovation and marketing linkages as well as export promotion.

One of the focal points of the partnership is the exploration of practical and cost-effective sericulture and silk technologies, particularly those suited for rural communities. This collaborative effort aims to facilitate a rich exchange of technical knowledge and expertise, thereby promoting the development of high-value silk and sericulture products.

The MoU sets the stage for joint projects tailored to specific needs, supported by mutually approved plans that may extend to detailed project reports and other relevant agreements. Coordinators have been appointed from both institutions—specifically the Managing Director of NEHHDC in Guwahati and the Director of Technology at CSB in Bengaluru—to oversee the execution and coordination of the initiatives.

Moreover, the agreement allows for partnerships with other public or private entities as necessary to enhance cooperation in the designated areas. It also includes essential clauses on intellectual property, confidentiality, and knowledge sharing to ensure effective implementation of joint efforts.

The MoU remains valid for five years from the date of signing and may be extended with mutual agreement. It provides a structured approach for sustained collaboration between NEHHDC and CSB, focusing on critical components such as research, technological advancements, skill enhancement, product innovation, infrastructure development and market integration. Ultimately, the collaboration is anticipated to catalyze technology-driven and market-oriented initiatives, connecting technical capabilities with field-level development opportunities within the silk and sericulture sectors.
