AGARTALA: Dr PK Chakraborty, the State Election Commissioner, Tuesday announced a voter turnout of 81.21% for the Village Committee (VC) elections held yesterday in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). He announced re-polling in three seats on October 3 in the Gamaria and Paharpur areas of Gomati district.

2,950 seats were contested by 8,176 candidates after 1,644 were elected unopposed - 81 from the BJP and a substantial 1,561 from Tipra Motha, he stated. 9,61,977 voters were eligible to exercise franchise across 587 Village Committees.

On election day, the initial turnout was reported at around 79% by 4 PM, while 10,850 voters remained in line. Final calculations brought the turnout to 81.01% before including 6,628 EDC (Election Duty Certificate) votes, resulting in the final figure of 81.21%.

Dr Chakraborty remarked on the largely normal law-and-order situation throughout the state, with eight complaints lodged concerning the obstruction of polling agents. Some complaints have already been addressed and the rest are being investigated.

His remarks included gratitude for voter cooperation and acknowledgment of the efforts made by district election officials and security establishments in facilitating a smooth election process.

Anurag Sen, the State Election Commission Secretary, was present during the media briefing.
