7 more help desks for women added in various police stations
AGARTALA: Seven additional Women Help Desks were established across various police stations in Tripura over past three years bringing the total to 90 operational desks. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha presented this information in a written response to MLA Sudip Sarkar in state assembly Monday.
He highlighted that the State Police have implemented several initiatives aimed at expediting the investigation of crimes against women. Officers in charge (OCs) of police stations have been mandated to act promptly upon receiving a complaint or filing a First Information Report (FIR) initiating investigations immediately.
Senior officers including Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) are responsible for overseeing these cases and providing necessary assistance.
The establishment of women police stations in every district supports this effort with staff trained specifically to handle women-related cases effectively.
The Chief Minister noted that investigating officers are utilising mobile forensic tools other advanced technologies and scientific methods during investigations. Each police station is also actively conducting awareness programmes to educate the public on legal rights, protection from domestic violence and various provisions relating to crimes against women as outlined by the BNS.
These initiatives are collectively meant at enhancing the safety and support provided to women in the community.
