
REGIONAL: The 3rd International Conference of the Global Plant Humanities Network commenced at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong Saturday in gracious presence of scholars, researchers and students. The event began with a ceremonial welcome and performances by students.
Prof Jyotimoy Pradhani delivered the welcome address acknowledging the collaborative efforts in organising the conference. Dr Goutam Majhi highlighted its interdisciplinary nature connecting botany and the humanities, reflecting on its historic significance and the success of receiving over 200 presentation abstracts.
Guest of Honour at the event Prof Moon Moon Mazumdar discussed the links between literature and ecology, referencing Rabindranath Tagore. Chief Guest Prof Sumarbin Umdor emphasised the importance of uniting botany and humanities, sharing insights on indigenous knowledge and Khasi culture.
Prof KS Nongkynrih enriched the session with reflections on Khasi folklore.
