10,889 nominations valid for Tripura Village Committee elections

AGARTALA: The Tripura state election commission announced that 10,889 nomination papers are valid after rejecting 72 nominations for the upcoming Village Committees (VCs) elections under the Tripura autonomous district council. The last date to withdraw nominations is September 11.
Altogether 10,961 nomination papers were submitted by 10,938 candidates, but 10,889 of them were accepted after scrutiny. The 72 rejected nominations involve 49 candidates.
BJP submitted 1,971, CPI(M) 2,456, INC (Congress) 465, IPFT 483, TMP (Tipra Motha Party) 4,361, CPI-4 and others totaled 1,149, leading to the accepted nomination count.
The elections for 587 VCs are set for September 28.
Meanwhile the election commission made an appeal to various political parties to participate in the polls and said it expected cooperation from all involved.
