Timely intervention of the RBSK team doctors

By A Contributor, DICA, Tripura

THE Tripura government is actively implementing various health initiatives aimed at benefiting all segments of society highlighting the principle that "health is wealth." Among these initiatives, the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Prakash (RBSK) project stands out as a crucial programme providing free health screenings, diagnostic tests and treatments for children.

A  exemplary case illustrates the impact of RBSK: Khasrang Tripura, a 6-year-old girl from Pushkarbari in the Sepahijala district presented severe respiratory issues at a health camp organized by the RBSK team from the Bishramganj Primary Health Center. Dr Jilam Das diagnosed her with potential congenital heart disease (CHD) during her examination. Khasrang was referred to IGM Hospital for an echo-cardiogram that confirmed the diagnosis of CHD and necessitated advanced treatment.

However, her family faced significant financial constraints, which hindered their ability to access necessary medical services. Fortunately, the RBSK team, recognising the urgency of her situation, facilitated her transfer to the Apollo Children's Hospital in Chennai.

Khasrang was admitted on May 7 and underwent surgery for her condition on May 8. Following a successful operation, she was discharged on May 14.

Post-surgery, on May 20, the RBSK team conducted a follow-up visit to ensure her recovery, confirming that Khasrang had returned to full health and was free of physical complications. Her family expressed profound gratitude to both the RBSK team and the state government for the life-saving care provided.

This case exemplifies the RBSK not only as a government initiative but also as a vital lifeline for sick and underprivileged children embodying hope for healthier lives.
