eid the most delicious day of the year

Eid = the most delicious day of the year

By Celina Jaitly

For me as a child, the equation was very simple.

Eid Mubarak, mere doston...

MY morning began with the most delicious sheer kurma dessert sent by my friend & neighbour, & instantly it took me back to my childhood in my Nani Bari in Lucknow.

Eid was always one of the most eagerly awaited days of the year because all of my grandparents’ Muslim friends would send across the most phenomenal food, fragrant biryani, sheer korma, phirni, shahi tukda, sevaiyaan, zarda, kulfi falooda, kebabs melting with Awadhi magic & trays full of love.

For me as a child, the equation was very simple.

Eid = the most delicious day of the year.

Another unforgettable part of Eid were the beautiful glass bangles. Somehow all of my grandparents’ friends would send me colorful bangles in little boxes & velvet pouches, tiny treasures that made me feel so special. Till today, whenever I see glass bangles, somewhere deep inside, I become that little girl in Lucknow again.

Many years of my life in the UAE also made Eid deeply significant for me. One of the most beautiful things I witnessed there was the spirit of giving during Ramadan & Eid, whether through Zakat, food drives, Eid kitchens, or community initiatives helping workers from all over the world, regardless of religion or nationality. I often joined these beautiful efforts, picking up groceries in bulk, packing essentials, handing out meals & simply witnessing humanity at its best. Those moments stayed with me forever because they reminded me that festivals are truly about compassion, dignity & sharing joy.

Today I sit here smiling at the hundreds of memories attached to this beautiful festival. Perhaps life is also about learning to build new memories while lovingly carrying the old ones in your heart forever.
And to all my Muslim friends who have not yet sent me the best dishes made in their homes today, please know I am waiting & I will absolutely hold you accountable.😋

Lots of love to all of you. Eid Mubarak to you & your loved ones. May peace prevail on earth, may peace touch every home, every heart & every country in this world. ✨💕✨
