AGARTALA, February 15, 2020: In a surprising move, lawyers owing allegiance to CPI(M) and Congress forged a coalition to fight ensuing elections to the Tripura Bar Association. They argued the alliance was worked out to defeat pro – BJP panel.
Acting President of state Congress Pijush Biswas, who himself is a leading advocate in the state, was not available for comment, but one of his aides said that such alliance has had occurred at various states in the country.
He cited seat sharing formula between Congress and CPI(M) adopted in elections to different lawyers’ forums in West Bengal in recent years.
BJP condemned the move as an ‘opportunistic’ ploy. The party envisaged victory in the poll.
