Proposal to rename TTAADC as Tripura territorial council

AGARTALA, November 21, 2019: Tripura government has worked out of proposals to reshape and augment authority of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The proposals were in compliance with questionnaire sent by the central government.
The meeting of council of minister approved set of new proposals Wednesday. It includes renaming of the TTAADC as Tripura Territorial Council. The proposals also include renaming Village Committees as Village Councils and creation of Block Councils.
The pattern of the territorial council would be that of Bodo Territorial Council in Assam.
The central government recently sent a questionnaire to the state government over former’s move to strengthen the TTAADC in wake of huge demands from indigenous parties and forums.
Activities surrounding the TTAADC intensified with its election approaching.
BJP – IPFT coalition government recommended increasing the seats from 30 to 50 in the proposed territorial council. 44 of them will be elected through popular franchise and six will be nominated by the Governor.
