BSF, Customs nab border criminal with Rs 15lakhs

Agartala, November 21, 2019: On 20 November BSF received an intelligence input regarding smuggling of Yaba Tablets in general area of village Srimantapur. Accordingly, a joint operation with the department of Customs was planned by BSF Coy Commander deployed at Border out Post Srimantapur under PS Sonamura, Dist Sepahijala. During Dusk hours, joint operation party observed some suspicious movement of a person with a backpack along Indo-Bangladesh Border near village Srimantapur.
On being challenged, the suspect tried to run away from the spot. Accordingly, alert operational team immediately chased and nabbed him along with a bag on his back. On search of the bag, Indian Currency of various denominations having value of Rs 15,00,000 was recovered. During questioning, he revealed his identity as Ali Hossain, 20 of Sonamura under Sepahijala (Tripura).
On sustained questioning of the suspect, he revealed that he received the consignment of Indian currency from Munir Hossain of Sonamura with the direction to deliver same to one person belonging to village Ravinder Nagar after getting the name and correct address from Munir Hossain. The apprehended person was handed over to the Customs Agartala along with the seized currency.
Besides above, on same night, BSF troops also succeeded in seizing other miscellaneous contraband items having collective market value of Rs. 1,73,350.It is also worth mentioning here that in addition to regular seizure of such huge quantity of Narcotics drugs particularly Yaba Tablets and Ganja; Vigilant BSF troops deployed on the extreme frontiers of the country are effectively manning the International Border and considerably seizing the contraband items like Phensedyl, Liquor, Cattle, Garments also on daily basis from bordering areas.
