AGARTALA, November 27, 2019: Border Area Development Programme (BADP) which is aimed at benefiting people residing in areas along international border has always been a non-starter in Tripura. Menace of corruption crippled this central government funded programme completely.
With a view to improve socio-economic condition of weaker sections residing within 15km radius of the border, Tripura government changed hand for proper and complete execution of the BADP. From April 1 next, the Rural Development Department would become its nodal department instead of Revenue Department.
Sources said at least 14 lakh people come under the BADP in Tripura which shares 856km boundary with Bangladesh.
The Revenue Department lies with the senior minister NC Debbarma who is President of the IPFT, coalition partner of ruling BJP. On the other BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarman holds the Rural Development portfolio.
