Badal Choudhury in hospital after jail bathroom fall

AGARTALA, January 19, 2020: CPI(M) stalwart and Rs 640 crore PWD scam accused Badal Choudhury suffered minor injuries after slipping and falling on floor of the bathroom at central prison in Bishalgarh Sunday. He has been admitted in GBP Hospital, his fourth in a row since his arrest on October 30 last year.
Doctors at hospital’s Trauma Centre said condition of Deputy Leader of Opposition in state assembly is stable. Family members and several CPI(M) leaders rushed to the hospital after hearing the incident.
68 years old Badal Choudhury was arrested from a private hospital on night of October 30 last year after he ended days of hiding to evade arrest in Rs 640 crore PWD scam. The Crime Branch under state police is probing the case opened under sections 409, 418, 420, 421 and 120(B) of IPC.
Apart from Badal Choudhury, former PWD Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik, former Principal Secretary YP Singh and seven others were indicted in the scam.
Bhowmik recently secured bail from the High Court, Singh remained escapee and Choudhury failed to obtain bail so far.
